Students at Merrick Avenue Middle School do not need an incentive to carry out the One Voice, One Message mission of collecting food donations for the district’s new food pantry.

Nonetheless, administrators offered a sweet treat to the team who collected the most pantry items for the districtwide Day of Service event — a warm hotcake breakfast. At MAMS, students are split up into four site-based teams.

Various staff members floured, flipped, served and syruped a pancake feast for the winners, Team 3, which included about 200 students.

“Merrick Avenue collectively supplied more than 1,000 pieces of donated items to the Day of Service that went to various shelters and group homes,” said Assistant Principal Katelyn Dunn.
