In honor of Autism Awareness Month, two clubs at Merrick Avenue Middle School joined together to bake up some sweets – and funds – for the organization, Autism Speaks.

Members of the Natural Helpers and SADD clubs held an after-school bake sale to fundraise. Both parents and students donated confectionary creations, helping the clubs to raise nearly $300.

“This day meant so much to us because our brother, Joe, has autism and it was nice for the school to come together and raise awareness," explained brothers John Hopkins and Chris Hopkins. The triplets all attend Merrick Avenue Middle School.

Anyone who made a donation was able to sign their puzzle piece to light up the hallways of Merrick Avenue blue for the month of April.
